"You're every bit as drunk, you're just an awake drunk"Research has come out recently that teens who are most likely to consume energy drinks are also most likely to engage in other high-risk behaviors such as alcohol, drugs, unsafe sex, etc. Kids tend to use the drinks to mask the effects of alcohol and drugs, in effect allowing them to consumer more than they otherwise would have. The dangers here are obvious. The quote that sums up this risk best: "You're every bit as drunk, you're just an awake drunk," said researcher Mary Claire O'Brien of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
